The First Date

For a while now I’ve had friends telling me I should start a blog.  My friend Melissa over at Baby Rocks held my hand as I clicked through the decision making progress of making this blog.  I figured in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. because hubs is working today and I’m not today would be a great day to sit down and write.

Things that make you go “hmmm”.

Ok, so let’s get this first date started.  This post will be an “About Me” so we can get all of the awkward first date questions out of the way so all of my readers my mom can decide if she wants to keep on reading.

I moved to New York City in 2004.  I spent the last five glorious years here.  Two of them I studied photography at The Fashion Institute of Technology (if any of the FIT gods are reading can you please send me my diploma already!?!) where I earned an Associates before deciding that photography as a career wasn’t quite for me.  Here’s some of the kick ass pictures I took during that time.

Ok, well that’s enough about me.  What do you do for fun?  Oh wait, it’s my blog.  I get to keep talking.

After school I worked various jobs.  Worked as a manager at the 5th Avenue store that takes empty stuffed animals and brings them to life.  I will not use the name of the store, after learning valuable lessons from Dooce.  This may or may not be a picture of my niece making said bear in the store that is to remain nameless.

After that job I worked for a couple of years as a professional matchmaker.  Yes, seriously.  We were pretty much exactly like The Millionaire Matchmaker.  Don’t worry, this blog will eventually uncover many of the amazing stories during my time at that dating company.

Then after that job I worked as a receptionist at an accounting firm for a year, before deciding to paint with all the colors of the wind quit my job and go back to school.  That’s how I ended up moving out of New York and back home into my parents house in Frederick, Maryland.  It’s not as bad as it sounds because my parents are pretty cool and we have our own private apartment.  But oh yea, we’re still living with MY PARENTS.  And why community college?  Um, it’s cheap.  I need to get a lot of gen ed credits because all I have are art credits, so I find myself starting over.

You’re still reading?  This is a great first date, eh?  During my time in NY I met the hubs.  He’s pretty much awesome.  And he has a hard time saying no to me, which I of course use to my full advantage.  Blog, meet the hubs (also known to friends as family as Jon).

Hubs knows just what to do with his fingers on the body…of a camera.  Get your mind outta the gutter people, MY MOM IS READING THIS.  He works as a nerd for a high end camera company, so we always have super expensive cameras laying around.  Nice.

Besides the hubs here are things I love:

  • Nail Polish
  • Sewing
  • Cake Decorating
  • Animal Rescues
  • Shoes

Here are some pictures of those things.

The last part, I promise!!  Brady, my baby boy.  He’ll be TWO in a couple of days (they grow up so fast)!  This little pound puppy has broken his leg and swallowed a sewing needle (needing emergency surgery on both, of course).  Blog readers, meet Brady.

And Brady disguised as a squirrel.

Well there you have it, my life in a nutshell.  If you made it to the end of the first date post then I’ll walk you to the door and give you an awkward good night hug.  I’ll call you tomorrow, promise.
